New in Groningen: Foodmarkt City

New in Groningen: Foodmarkt City

Hey guys,

Today we visited Foodmarkt City at their big opening. Foodmarkt City is a new concept by Jumbo (supermarkets). We didn’t expect much but were positively surprised! It is located at Oude Ebbingestraat, in the old V&D building.

Foodmarkt City is a combination of a supermarket and a café. There is an open kitchen, where chefs prepare things like pizza’s, sushi, salads, sandwiches and a lot of other meals, which you can take right from the kitchen or find them in the shelves. There is a lot of choice and most of it is rather healthy. You can either take home your stuff or eat them at the small café area.  All of the fresh-made products are best to eat within the same day but you can also buy other grocery products like cheese, chocolate, wine etc. Even though it was extremely busy at the opening, it looked neat and well ordered.

Since it was the opening, they handed out some things to try and we had some sushi and grilled sandwiches, it all tasted good and fresh.

This is the perfect solution for when you don’t feel like cooking, but you also don’t want to spend too much money, and you still want to eat healthy. Which is quite often in our case, and we feel like this concept was really missing in Groningen. Besides that, they offer a lot of one-person-meals which can also be convenient. We already discussed how perfect this is when we have to spend whole days in the library again, studying for exams.

Please check out the pictures below and let us know what you think! Oh, and one important thing to take in mind before you go: you can only pay by card, so no cash! And if you’re lazy: they have a delivery service.
